History of the music video




  • 1920- Combination of sound and vison together, 'The Talkies'

  • 1950- The first colour tv, 'Jailhouse Rock'

  • 1965- Televison Variet Show, music on televison

  • 1960s- Top of the pops with Beatles, Strawberry fields first shown with a promade film. If artist couldnt make an appearance they would send their video in.

  • 1979- Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' produced by Bruce Gower. Cost £3,500 and created in 3 hours.

  • 1980- Davie Bowe, ashes to ashes

  • 1981- MTV launched in 300 million homes,  Video killed the radio show, first music video on MTV.

  • Toni Basil created 7 music videos which connected to 7 songs, also was the first artist to be signed by a video record label

  • 1985- CD available in shops

  • Frankie goes to Hollywood, relax was banned because of too many homoerotic scenes.

  • Michael Jackson became King of pop with many videos including thriller which showed sexual and scary themes which cost 1/2 million dollors.
